One thing to keep in mind is that we have to delineate between theory and fact. Both of the items you mention are theorized to explain the phenomena that we experience. Theories do change however and are modified or discarded as new facts emerge.
One has to be careful, therefore, about allowing theories to modify your worldview. No matter how preeminent the scientist that purports a particular theory, that is all it is until it can be proven.
So don't give up on reality yet.
